Celebrating Irish Children’s Books | Online School and Family Book Festival. This year we are part of the Dublin Book Festival.

PROGRAMME SCHEDULE

Supported by the Arts Council of Ireland - Literature

[FINISHED] 11am | To the Island: Live Dual Language Workshop with Patricia Forde

November 20, 2020 11:00 am
Cost: €15 per class
Until 11:30 am
1ST/2ND CLASS

Note: This event is from a previous year.
Please visit this year’s festival programme for the latest 2021 events.

Join award-winning writer Patricia Forde for a fun, creative workshop featuring her new book, To the Island (available in both Irish and English).

In this live event Patricia will welcome the children and share a specially made video which introduces To the Island to children. She will then inspire them to imagine and create their own mystical island. After they have created their own islands, Patricia will answer children’s questions about her book and her work as a writer. Why not photograph the new islands and send them to the Wonderfest team? We’d love to share them in our online gallery!

It’s a good idea to prepare questions before the event with your pupils.

A live, interactive event, delivered digitally via your own whiteboard.

To The Island

Fia looks out her window and across the bay. She longs to see the mythical island of Hy Brasil, which appears and disappears in the water. She slips out of bed, walks across a moonbeam and arrives at the island. She walks with magical creatures, dances with a host of girls and boys, and visits the bottom of the sea and the stars in space. Finally, Fia returns to the town, and follows the small compass of her heart – all the way home. Lyrical text with gorgeous colour illustrations, from a multi-award-winning Irish author. Based on the mythical Irish island of Hy Brasil, which lies off the west coast of Galway.

An t-Oileán Thiar

Is fada le Fia go dtabharfaidh sí cuairt ar an oileán draíochta, áit a bhfuil an t-aer lán le rúin. Oíche amháin, síneann ga gealaí trasna an chuain chuici agus tugann sé chuig an oileán í. Téann sí ag marcaíocht ar fhéileacán órga, ag damhsa i measc réaltaí na spéire agus síos go tóin na farraige … Tá maisiú gleoite daite sa leabhar seo, lena dtugtar léiriú den scoth ar bheocht an scéil álainn liriciúil le húdar na leabhar Mise agus an Dragún agus Fidget the Wonder Dog, scéalaí a bhfuil go leor duaiseanna buaite aici.

And my favourite #picturebook this year is the amazing #BeWildLittleOne by Irish author @Hopewrites and illuminated by the marvellous art of @DanielEgneus. It's a definite #IrishBooks recommendation for #BookElves2022. A perfect gift for little readers - and not-so-little ones! https://t.co/1zjERJ3FRO
