Eve McDonnell grew up in Dublin before moving to the beautiful countryside of Wexford where she lives halfway up a hill with her husband, twins, Happy the dog and new kitten, Fusspot. Eve embarked on a career as an artist and, following her studies at NCAD, worked in graphic design, brand development and marketing before turning to writing. Eve’s debut children’s novel Elsetime, was published in 2020 and was inspired by a real-life tragic event: the Great Flood of London in 1928.

Celine Kiernan

Celine Kiernan lives in rural Ireland surrounded by cows and cats and people she loves. She writes the kinds of books she wants to read, which means they’re a bit scary, a bit complicated, and full to the brim with adventure. Her latest trilogy for young readers, The Wild Magic Trilogy, is chock-full of witches, danger, friendship, adventure and love. The Promise Witch (Book 3) came out this year and it follows the adventures of young witch, Mup, as her new home falls under a dreadful curse.

The Miracle on Ebenezer Street

An enchanting and exciting tale of Christmas magic from multi-award-winning and bestselling writer Catherine Doyle. ‘Old Marley’s magic was beginning to stir…’ George is about to spend his third Christmas without his mum. Since she died, George’s life has felt dull and grey; his dad has thrown himself into his work and has no time for family, and definitely no time for Christmas. Then, George stumbles across Marley’s Curiosity Shop. There he finds a mysterious snow globe, which – though George can’t quite understand how – appears to show a scene from George’s past. A Christmas in which he and his family were together, and happy… That night, George and his dad are swept on an adventure to three Christmases – past, present, and future. With help from new friends, and just a touch of magic, can they begin living life in full colour again?

Elsetime

Eve’s debut novel for 9-12 year olds, ELSETIME, was published in 2020 by Everything With Words and was inspired by a real-life tragic event: The Great Flood of London in 1928. Meet mudlark Needle and an impetuous jeweller’s apprentice called Glory; a special crow and a hard-nosed taskmaster; a distinguished inventor and a deadly flood – all living their lives in Inthington Town just a stone’s throw from each other but with many decades between. Cover and internal illustrations by Holly Ovenden.

The Wild Magic Trilogy - The Promise Witch

Third and final instalment in a middle-grade fantasy adventure about witches and forbidden magic from a beloved Irish writer. In the third book in The Wild Magic Trilogy, Witches Borough is dying, and no one knows how to save it. Into this scorched landscape storms a raggedy witch named Magda, trailing ashes in her wake. She wants Mup. She wants Mup to fulfil a promise. And woe betide any who stand in her way.

And my favourite #picturebook this year is the amazing #BeWildLittleOne by Irish author @Hopewrites and illuminated by the marvellous art of @DanielEgneus. It's a definite #IrishBooks recommendation for #BookElves2022. A perfect gift for little readers - and not-so-little ones! https://t.co/1zjERJ3FRO
