Celebrating Irish Children’s Books | Online School and Family Book Festival.
WonderFest is over for 2021. Thank you to everyone who took part. See you in 2022!

PROGRAMME SCHEDULE

Supported by the Arts Council of Ireland - Literature

2pm | Masterclass – Writing and Illustrating Picturebooks with Mary Murphy

November 21, 2021 2:00 pm
Cost: €30
Until 3:30 pm
ADULTS

You have a yen to be involved in picturebooks? You want to write them? Illustrate them? Maybe do both? Step this way…

In this masterclass, Mary Murphy will share her picturebooks experiences, and show some work. To make the event as relevant as possible, Mary especially wants to answer your questions – e.g., What makes a strong picturebook character? How do I know my picture book is ‘ready’? How can I make my work stand out? Is it okay to rhyme? What makes a publisher look twice?

Sign up, and send your burning question to info@wonderfest.ie  by 5th November. Ask about something that has really been niggling at you, or that you have never heard answered, or that you just want to have clarified, once and for all.

Mary Murphy

Mary’s first book, I Like it When… was published with Egmont in 1997. Since then she has written and illustrated more than 45 bright, strong books, mainly for pre-schoolers. Her most recent books are Look, Puppy! illustrated by Victoria Byron (Walker Books 2021) and Only a Tree Knows How to be a Tree, (Otter-Barry Books 2020). She finds the work challenging, interesting and a lot of fun.

Look, Puppy!

Hello, puppy! We don’t know where you came from. We don’t know what kind of dog you are. We’ve been waiting and waiting for you – look! A little girl takes her new puppy out into the world. She shows them her house, her road, her friends, and lots of other dogs, too. It’s a perfect day, until they reach the busy park and the puppy is nowhere to be seen! To find her, the little girl must decide her puppy’s perfect name.
