Gerry Daly

Gerry Daly is an illustrator and an author. His first book, set around the Skellig islands, was Where Are You, Puffling? written by Erika McGann. Kim Sharkey

Kim Sharkey is an award-winning illustrator who received the Children’s Books Ireland Eilís Dillon Award for her first children’s book, Mór agus Muilc. A multi-media artist, Kim lives and works by the sea on the west coast of Ireland in Co Donegal, with her husband Jimmy, dog Rosie, two cats and three goats. Kim’s art draws inspiration from the abundance of native wildlife near her home and from the wonder-filled tales of folklore that she has loved since she was a little girl.

Bex Sheridan

Bex Sheridan is an illustrator, writer and graphic designer. She has a great love of animals and is often commissioned to illustrate them. Bex and her husband even have their own mini-menagerie: it began with one rabbit and now they share their home with rabbits, dogs, birds (of many kinds), a bearded dragon and even an African pygmy hedgehog, who was the inspiration behind her new book, Go to Sleep, Hoglet!, the story of an Irish hedgehog who doesn't want to hibernate because Christmas is coming.

Wee Donkey's Treasure Hunt

A wee donkey sat in the shade of a tree. ‘If you had one wish, Grandad, what would it be?’ ‘I’d fix this old back and these wobbly knees, and go see the sights that are out there to see.’ The wee donkey thought, ‘I can’t turn back the years, but I can get Grandad some great souvenirs.’ She slipped through the gate with a small wooden cart, in search of some gifts that would warm Grandad’s heart. The wee donkey heads across Ireland, where she “borrows” the Jeanie Johnston ship from the Liffey, the round tower from Glendalough, kisses from the Blarney Stone and more, to bring to her grandad. But you can’t go taking national treasures like that, particularly when the police find out! A warm and entertaining picture book from the team who brought you Where Are You, Puffling?

Kim Sharkey

Leabhar pictiúir do pháistí, bunaithe ar scéal traidisiúnta as Tír Chonaill. Cuireann sé síos ar an bheirt charachtar, Mór agus Muilc, agus na heachtraí a bhíonn acu i ndiaidh dóibh casadh le portán ar an trá. Síleann Mór agus Muilc gur an bás atá sa phortán agus imíonn siad ina rith. Casann siad le cuid mhór carachtair shuimiúla ag teitheadh dóibh agus ritheann siad go léir le heagla ón phortán. Is ramás simplí siamsúil é a thaitníonn go mór le páistí óga. An ceacht a fhoghlaimítear sa scéal nó nár cheart ligean den eagla an bhua a fháil agus nár cheart éisteacht le gach rud a chluin tú. Tá an leabhar maisithe go healaíonta ag an ealaíontóir, Kim Sharkey.

Go to Sleep Hoglet

One misty morning, in their cosy little nests, down by the banks of the river Boyne, all the hedgehogs were snuggling up for the Big Winter Sleep. But one little hedgehog just couldn’t go to sleep. Every time Hoglet closed his eyes, he kept thinking about Rabbit’s Super Special Secret … A baby hedgehog decides that he doesn’t want to hibernate, and goes searching for Christmas magic in the world of humans. A perfect bedtime story for animal lovers.

And my favourite #picturebook this year is the amazing #BeWildLittleOne by Irish author @Hopewrites and illuminated by the marvellous art of @DanielEgneus. It's a definite #IrishBooks recommendation for #BookElves2022. A perfect gift for little readers - and not-so-little ones! https://t.co/1zjERJ3FRO
