Teachers! Do the children in your class love robots, monsters and humour? Then this live event is perfect for them (and you)!

Pádraig and Shane will read from their new books, and talk about their characters and plots. They’ll also talk about robot and monster books they love, and share some writing tips with the children. There may even be a monster or robot joke or two! They are looking forward to answering lots of the children’s questions too.

Join Pádraig and Shane in conversation with author Patricia Forde, for a fun morning, laughs guaranteed!

It’s a good idea to prepare questions before the event with your pupils.

A live, interactive event, delivered digitally via your own whiteboard.

Shane Hegarty

Shane Hegarty is the bestselling author of Boot, a story about a toy robot with only two-and-half-memories. Boot was recently Dublin UNESCO City of Literature Citywide Read. He also wrote the Darkmouth series about a boy who has to fight monsters even though he'd much rather run away. His latest book is Boot: The Creaky Creatures, illustrated by Ben Mantle. The Monsters of Rookhaven

Mirabelle has always known she is a monster. When the glamour protecting her unusual family from the human world is torn and an orphaned brother and sister stumble upon Rookhaven, Mirabelle soon discovers that friendship can be found in the outside world. But as something far more sinister comes to threaten them all, it quickly becomes clear that the true monsters aren’t necessarily the ones you can see. A thought-provoking, chilling and beautifully written novel, Pádraig Kenny’s The Monsters of Rookhhaven, stunningly illustrated by Edward Bettison, explores difference and empathy through the eyes of characters you won’t want to let go.

Boot: The Creaky Creatures

For fans of Toy Story and Charlie Changes into a Chicken, this is the third hilarious, warm-hearted story about a small robot on a big adventure. With illustrations by Ben Mantle bringing Boot’s world to life, this is a thrill-ride of an adventure story, stuffed with fun, friendship, and a large number of malfunctioning robot pets. Boot was once a toy robot, but it has come a long way since it was scrapped and woke back up with only two-and-a-half glitchy memories. When Boot catches sight of a robot pet it used to know – Mr Piggles – our hero and pals follow it to a beautiful green square in the city of skyscrapers. Here they find not just real nature, but also a haven for broken and rejected pets. They also meet the children who look after the pets, and for whom this green space is a sanctuary too. But Boot is distracted by its emotions, swinging from happy to sad … maybe Boot is broken? Can it work out what is wrong, with the help of its friends? Illustrated throughout in glorious black and white by the award-winning Ben Mantle, this is an unforgettable tale of resilience and hope.

And my favourite #picturebook this year is the amazing #BeWildLittleOne by Irish author @Hopewrites and illuminated by the marvellous art of @DanielEgneus. It's a definite #IrishBooks recommendation for #BookElves2022. A perfect gift for little readers - and not-so-little ones! https://t.co/1zjERJ3FRO
