Celebrating Irish Children’s Books | Online School and Family Book Festival.
WonderFest is over for 2021. Thank you to everyone who took part. See you in 2022!

PROGRAMME SCHEDULE

Supported by the Arts Council of Ireland - Literature

[FINISHED] 10am | Molly and the Lighthouse: Story and Art Workshop with Malachy Doyle and Andrew Whitson

November 22, 2020 10:00 am
Cost: €5 per family
Until 10:40 am
AGE 4 TO 6

Note: This event is from a previous year.
Please visit this year’s festival programme for the latest 2021 events.

Malachy will reveal some fascinating facts about lighthouses from around the world, and Mr. Ando will construct a lighthouse scene using bits and pieces from around his art studio. If you love the sea and lighthouses, and want to find out how two talented people create their books together, you’ll love this event!

Why not join in and make your own lighthouse scene? Have paper, pencil and colouring pencils or markers ready, and collect some bits and pieces from around your home (small cardboard boxes, shells, small stones, a torch, tin foil etc), and you’ll be all set to create your own masterpiece! You can photograph it and send it to the Wonderfest Team – we’d love to share your art in our online gallery!

A live, interactive workshop, delivered digitally.

Malachy Doyle

Malachy Doyle was born in Carrickfergus and grew up in Whitehead, County Antrim, by the sea. The seventh of eleven children, he had the freedom to roam and has always been a wanderer. He has published over a hundred books for children of all ages, his most recent being Molly and the Lighthouse, the third in the highly popular Molly series. He lives on an island off the coast of Donegal with his artist wife and a menagerie of animals.

Andrew Whitson

Andrew Whitson is a multi-award-winning artist and a Belfast native who likes to be called Mr Ando! He lives in an old house which nestles discreetly on the side of a misty hill; at the edge of a magic wood, below an enchanted castle in the shadow of a giant’s nose. His house looks down over Belfast docks where the Titanic was built, and up at the Belfast Cavehill where an American B-17 Flying Fortress bomber once crashed during World War II! Mr Ando has illustrated over twenty books, including many award-winners. He is currently illustrating the Molly picture books with Malachy Doyle, and the award-winning Rita picture books with Myra Zepf. Molly and the Lighthouse, the latest Molly book, is published by Graffeg in English and Welsh, and by An tSnáthaid Mhór in Irish (Muireann agus an Teach Solais).
