Wee Donkey’s Treasure Hunt: An Adventure All Around Ireland

A wee donkey sat in the shade of a tree.
‘If you had one wish, Grandad, what would it be?’
‘I’d fix this old back and these wobbly knees,
and go see the sights that are out there to see.’

The wee donkey thought, ‘I can’t turn back the years,
but I can get Grandad some great souvenirs.’
She slipped through the gate with a small wooden cart,
in search of some gifts that would warm Grandad’s heart.

The wee donkey heads across Ireland, where she “borrows” the Jeanie Johnston ship from the Liffey, the round tower from Glendalough, kisses from the Blarney Stone and more, to bring to her grandad.

But you can’t go taking national treasures like that, particularly when the police find out! A warm and entertaining picture book from the team who brought you Where Are You, Puffling?

The Jeanie Johnston (Dublin), Glendalough, Blarney castle, Giant’s Causeway, Tara, the sea on the Wild Atlantic Way and the Book of Kells in Trinity are just a few of the places Wee Donkey visits to bring her grandad a souvenir.

“From the author and illustrator that gave us Where Are You, Puffling? comes this adorable story that not only takes us on a jaunt around Ireland, but highlights the love between a grandchild and grandfather. The thoughtfulness and pleasure Wee Donkey has in doing something special for her Grandad is put forth in a light-hearted rhyming text is a joy to read alongside the colourful and bright illustrations that bring the action and locations to life. There is much detail in the pictures, giving opportunity to linger page after page, pointing out the all fabulous and fun places and activities, all rich with history and the natural world. Heartwarming and humourous, this book is a delight…and educational, too”

Fallen Star Stories

“An aging donkey longs to see Ireland’s famous sights, but his body has gotten the better of him. Determined to fulfil his dream, his wee granddaughter sets out with her small wooden cart to collect him some lovely souvenirs. When she unwittingly gathers national treasures, the gardaí are soon on her trail … With lively rhyming text and bright, amusing illustrations, this picturebook mixes humour and heart with a touch of fantasy”
